| SAVE THE DATE! Children's Health Care Day at the Capitol -- NEXT
THURSDAY!
On Thursday, August 23rd, the 100% Campaign, PICO California, and hundreds of supporters of kids' health will take to the Capitol to spread the message that providing coverage to all California's children can and must happen this year! There will be a press conference with supportive public officials. In addition, PICO is hosting a children's health prayer vigil at 10 a.m. on the North steps of the Capitol that will emphasize the necessity and urgency of providing health coverage for all children. All are welcome to attend. |
| Kids' Coverage Bills Headed to Appropriations Committees
After successful passage from the policy committees of the second houses, SB 32 (Steinberg) and AB 1 (Laird/Dymally), identical children's health coverage expansion bills, are scheduled to be taken up in appropriations committees next week. AB 1 is expected to be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, August 20th, while SB 32 will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, August 22nd. Successful outcomes in each committee hearing are a vital and necessary next step in ensuring that all of California's children have access to quality, affordable and comprehensive health care. The 100% Campaign,
a collaborative effort of The Children's Partnership, Children Now
and Children's Defense Fund, was created to ensure that all of California's
children obtain the health insurance they need to grow up strong
and healthy. The PICO California
Project is the united effort of 20 California congregation-community
organizations affiliated with the PICO National Network. Collectively,
we represent 350 congregations and 400,000 families statewide and
are actively organizing in over 70 cities in Northern and Southern
California. |
