Update Proposals to Expand Health Coverage to All Children Approved in First House Legislative efforts to provide health coverage to all children in California came one step closer this week as two companion bills, AB 1 (Laird & Dymally) and SB 32 (Steinberg) passed out of their houses of origin after brief discussion on the floor. AB 1 passed out of the Assembly with a vote of 46-24, and SB 32 passed out of the Senate by a vote of 25-13. Both bills - sponsored by the 100% Campaign and PICO California - now move to the opposite house where they will be considered by policy and fiscal committees. For more information, please see our press release on passage of the legislation. Also, for the final vote counts on each bill, please see SB 32 vote and AB 1 vote. In addition, two legislative health reform plans that include policies to expand children's health insurance - AB 8 (Nunez) and SB 48 (Perata)- were also approved in their respective houses of origin. Please stay tuned for more information on health reform developments, upcoming AB 1/SB 32 committee hearings and next steps for children's health insurance! Thank you for your efforts to ensure all California children obtain access to affordable, comprehensive health coverage. |
The 100% Campaign,
a collaborative effort of The Children's Partnership, Children Now
and Children's Defense Fund, was created
to ensure that all of California's children obtain the health insurance
they need to grow up strong and healthy. The PICO California
Project is the united effort of 20 California congregation-community
organizations affiliated with the PICO National Network. Collectively,
we represent 350 congregations and 400,000 families statewide and
are actively organizing in over 70 cities in Northern and Southern
California. |
