Reaching Uninsured Kids Where They Are: AB 420 (Wolk)

A significant share of California’s uninsured, but eligible, children are served by the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). AB 420 improves upon SB 437 (Escutia 2006) enacted last year, which created the WIC gateway. The WIC gateway streamlines and expedites health insurance enrollment for children who are served at local WIC agencies. AB 420 modifies SB 437 by targeting participation in the gateway where it will be most effective: WIC sites that serve a larger number of participants and a high proportion of uninsured participants. We are proud to collaborate with Assemblymember Wolk and the California WIC Association in this effort to reach and enroll eligible uninsured children. For more information, please see this factsheet.

AB 420 will be heard in Chairman Dymally’s Assembly Health Committee on March 27th (starting at 1:30pm in Room 4202). The 100% Campaign, California WIC Association, and PICO California will be there to talk about the legislation. We would truly appreciate YOUR support. The deadline to get support letters in to Assembly Health Committee is 12:00pm tomorrow!

  • Please personalize this sample letter today and fax it to Assembly Health Committee before noon tomorrow at 916-319-2197 and to Assemblymember Wolk’s office at 916-319-2108.

As always, thank you for your work to help give every child a healthy start! Please call Alani Cridge Navarro at 916-443-1869 with questions.
