Governor Releases Health Care Plan Including Coverage for All Kids

This afternoon in Sacramento, Governor Schwarzenegger revealed his health reform proposal for 2007. We applaud the Governor for proposing to cover all California children, including extending Medi-Cal and Healthy Families to all children with family incomes at or below 300% of poverty ($60,000 annually for a family of 4), regardless of immigration status. Though much of the proposal still lacks detail and many questions remain unanswered, we applaud the Governor for leading the way to achieving health coverage for all children this year.

Please read the joint press statement of the 100% Campaign, PICO California, United Ways of California and California Children's Health Initiatives on Governor Schwarzenegger's health care reform announcement.

Also today, Californians for Healthy Kids played a key role in Assembly Speaker Núñez's press conference responding to the Governor's proposal and voicing his continued commitment to finding a solution to insure all children. Wendy Lazarus, The Children's Partnership, introduced Speaker Núñez and voiced Californians for Healthy Kids' desire to work with the Legislature in making health coverage for all children a reality in 2007.
