How Many Voters Will You Talk to In the Next Five Days?

Yes on Prop 86 KidsToday's Field Poll shows Proposition 86 in a statistical tie among likely California Voters: 45% yes - 45% no, with 10% undecided.

The "Yes on Prop 86" campaign's Maria Robles, R.N., says, "It's not surprising the tobacco industry's $65 million campaign to deceive voters about Prop 86 would have an impact but we're now on the airwaves, when voters are paying attention, and we're confident that voters will ultimately see through the tobacco industry's lies and vote for reducing smoking and funding health programs."

Our TV ads are on the air in every media market in the state--and former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop is featured in a new ad. The difference in this election will come down to our efforts to reach out to voters in these final days, to let them know that Prop 86 will stop teens from smoking, save lives, and ensure access to affordable health insurance for every child in California.Every single voter contact you make will push Prop 86 ahead.

The next few days are critical. Here are ways YOU can make a difference:

  • Email all of your friends and colleagues--remind them to vote on Tuesday and encourage them to vote YES on 86.

  • Download and print YES on 86 materials or ask for them at your friendly local American Cancer Society office. For example, you could print some door-hangers and put one on every door on your block (or someone else's block!). Or, you could pass out postcards to your running club, PTA meeting, congregation, or local farmers' market.

  • Phone bank. You are the most powerful asset we have to spread the word about how Prop 86 is going to save lives. There are phone banks set up all over the state where you can call your neighbors and tell them why you are voting YES on Prop 86.

  • Call Kelly Hardy at 510-763-2444 x126 to brainstorm other ways you can help.

Recall that in 1998, Proposition 10 won by just 65,000 votes. Health advocates have been in a tight race before and know how to defeat Big Tobacco in the home stretch.

We have just a few days to reach every undecided voter and tell them the truth about Proposition 86. With your help, we can pass Prop 86, thereby preventing 700,000 kids from starting to smoke and ensuring all California children have access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance!
