Support Senate Bill 437
August 31st--the end of the legislative session--is approaching quickly! SB 437 (Escutia) will be taken up on the Assembly floor very soon, as early as tomorrow, August 29. This bill makes important and substantive improvements that will increase health insurance for the majority of uninsured children - those who already qualify for state programs. The bill will make it easier for families to enroll their children in health insurance programs, and will help ensure that enrolled children stay insured without experiencing gaps in coverage. Californians for Healthy Kids needs your organization's support for this crucial legislation. Please call your state Assemblymembers and Senators now to urge them to vote for SB 437, as the bill is up on the Assembly floor and will moving to the Senate shortly. Please also send a letter supporting SB 437 today. After negotiations with legislative leadership and the Administration, the final legislative package includes several modifications, including deletion of some policies but also the addition of important new provisions, such as allowing Healthy Families children to renew coverage by certifying income and a pilot demonstration to allow families applying and renewing Medi-Cal coverage to self-certify. In addition, we are sending out a floor alert to the Legislature for SB 437. If you are able to deliver a similar floor alert to all the members on your own letterhead, it would be very helpful. Please feel free to use our floor alert as a template if you like. For additional information, please visit:
