Programs

California has many health programs that serve the needs of children and families. They range from comprehensive state-run programs, such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, to specialized and low-cost care through a health care organization. Below is a listing of all California programs, which includes information on eligibility, cost and the application process.
Primary Programs

Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal provides comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for low-income, uninsured children. Medi-Cal is California's public health insurance for low-income children and families.

Healthy Families
Healthy Families is California's public health insurance program for children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medi-Cal but don't make enough to afford private coverage.

Children's Health Initiatives
Locally-developed health insurance programs that provide comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance to uninsured children who do not qualify for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families.

Other Programs

Child Health Disability and Prevention Program
The Child Health Disability and Prevention Program provides preventive health assessments to eligible infants, children and youth.

Child Health Disability and Prevention Program Gateway
The CHDP Gateway allows families to temporarily enroll their children in Medi-Cal through an on-line automated system for a period of up to two months. This enrollment occurs when they take their children to CHDP providers for physical examinations.

Access for Infants and Mothers
Access for Infants and Mothers provides subsidized health insurance for care to pregnant women without health insurance throughout their pregnancy and 60 days after the child is born. After the baby is born, infants are eligible for Healthy Families for up to two years.

California Children's Services
California Children's Services provides treatment and case management services for children under 21 years of age with serious medical problems such as chronic illnesses, genetic diseases, physical handicaps, major injuries due to violence and accidents, congenital defects, and conditions requiring treatment in neonatal intensive care units.

CaliforniaKids
CaliforniaKids provides low cost primary health care coverage for uninsured children ages 2 through 18 (including undocumented and emancipated youth).

Family PACT
Family PACT provides comprehensive family planning services to low-income men and women in California.

Indian Health Program
The Inidian Health Program provides no-cost comprehensive health insurance for Native American children in California.

Kaiser Permanente Cares for Kids: Child Health Plan
Kaiser Permanente Cares for Kids provides low cost health care coverage for uninsured children under the age of 19 who are not eligible to participate in Medi-Cal, Healthy Families or have any other health insurance.
