Child care programs are exciting potential partners in
the effort to enroll uninsured children. Estimates
suggest that approximately 170,000 children in child
care do not have health insurance. Most of these children
are from low- and moderate-income families, and therefore
likely to qualify for Healthy Families, Medi-Cal, or
a locally sponsored program, such as Healthy Kids (where
available).
The 100% Campaign is currently supporting two promising
pilot projects--one in Fresno and one in Los Angeles--both
of which are making significant strides in utilizing
child care settings to enroll eligible children in available
health insurance programs.
