SACRAMENTO, CA--The 100% Campaign (a collaborative effort
of Children Now, Children's Defense Fund and The Children's
Partnership), PICO California, United Ways of California
and the California Children's Health Initiatives issued
the following statement today following the announcement
of Governor Schwarzenegger on his health care reform
package:
"By announcing today that his health care reform
package prioritizes covering all California children,
Governor Schwarzenegger has demonstrated strong leadership
in making children's health care coverage a reality.
We applaud the Governor for sharing this vision with
us and the majority of Californians."
"By bringing health coverage to more children we
will see many benefits including a healthier population,
fewer lost days of school and work for children and parents
due to illness, and a more efficient use of our health
care dollar. By investing in children, we will also minimize
the burden on our emergency services system by ensuring
that kids receive their medical care in the appropriate
setting, with a strong focus on preventive care."
"Furthermore, we applaud the Governor for representing
the majority of California voters along with dozens of
local coalitions around the state who believe that covering
all kids is the right thing to do."
"We look forward to working with the Governor and
legislature over the next few months to make the goal
of covering all kids in 2007 a reality."
The 100% Campaign, a collaborative
effort of Children Now, Children's Defense Fund and The
Children's Partnership, with primary funding from The
California Endowment, was created to ensure that all
of California's children obtain the health coverage they
need to grow up strong and healthy.
The PICO California Project is the united effort
of 20 California congregation-community organizations
affiliated with the PICO National Network. Collectively,
we represent 350 congregations and 400,000 families statewide
and are actively organizing in over 70 cities in Northern
and Southern California.
