SACRAMENTO, CA -- The 100% Campaign
(a collaborative effort of Children Now, Children's Defense
Fund and The Children's Partnership), PICO California,
United Ways of California and the California's Children's
Health Care Initiatives issued the following statement
today following the announcement of California Assembly
Speaker Fabian Nunez on his health care priorities:
"The future for California's children looks much
brighter after Speaker Fabian Nunez' announcement to make
providing health insurance to all children the Assembly's
top health care priority next year. We applaud the leadership
of Speaker Nunez, and we absolutely agree that health
care reform in 2007 starts with and must include covering
all kids.
"Covering all kids will increase access for our
most vulnerable population. In addition, providing health
coverage for every child in California is a very real
and achievable goal. Over 90% of California's 10 million
children are insured.
"We look forward to working with the Speaker, the
Governor, and other legislative leaders on both sides
of the aisle who are committed to finishing the job of
covering all kids."
