The Healthy Families Program provides low-cost health insurance for nearly 900,000 California children, however, in the last year alone, Healthy Families enrollment has dropped off by 53,000 children, at a time when one would expect enrollment to be increasing more than usual due to the economic recession. Governor’s May Revise Budget Proposes to Put Critical Health Care Services Out of Reach for Children and Families

The Governor’s May Revision to the 2010-2011 state budget proposes to balance California’s budget on the back of low income children and families.  Huge proposed cuts to health programs, child welfare services, child care, and education, combined with the proposed elimination of CalWORKS, threaten to decimate California families.  CalWORKS currently provides money for basic needs for over a million children, and helps parents find jobs.
